BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) personnel have seized Indian goods worth Tk 50 million that was smuggled into Bangladesh.
BGB Chuadanga Battalion-6 Director SM Moniruzzaman disclosed the information at a press briefing held in Magura around 11am Saturday.
He said, a covered van stuffed with Indian goods was stopped late Saturday night near Magura petrol pump of the Upazila.
The seized goods are mostly Indian-made dresses, sarees and various types of dress materials.
Following the standard rules, the products, estimated to be worth Tk 54.7 million, would be handed over to the customs department, said the BGB official.
The goods were carried in through the land border, said BGB officials. However, they could not arrest anyone involved in the smuggling.
Battalion Director Moniruzzaman said, acting on a tip-off the goods were seized from Magura petrol pump while it was carried from the border to Dhaka.
“Sensing the presence of the BGB, the smugglers left the van and fled. After searching the van, the goods were found,” said the BGB official.
